Číslo přináší dva články historické a dva systematické, plus jednu recenzi. Zde je stručná charakterizace v angličtině:

The first 2014 issue of Studia Neoaristotelica offers two historical and two systematic papers, together with a review. John A. Demetracopoulos (Patrace, Greece) in "Purchotius Græcus II: Vikentios Damodos’ Concise Metaphysics, Part I (“Ontology”) and II (“Pneumatology”)" provides a detailed comparative study of a part of the Concise Metaphysics of Vikentios Damodos (1700–1754), a Greek teacher of philosophy and theology in Cephalonia, Greece, with the Institutiones philosophicæ of Edmond Pourchot (1651–1734), a French scholastic-Cartesian professor of philosophy at the University of Paris. The comparison reveals Damodos's writings to be an extreme case of plagiarism. The result is interesting not just for historians of modern Greek thought, but also more generally for studies of textbook-writing practices of the time; the article also provides an interesting glimpse into the content of metaphysics textbooks of the time. Jan Palkoska (Prague, Czech Rep.) in "Inesse and Concipi in Spinoza’s Ethics" deals with Spinoza's definitions of substance/mode in terms of being-in-itself/being-in-another and conceived-through-itself/conceived-through-another. Palkoska carefully analyses and evaluates two rival approaches ('inherence' and 'causal') that have emerged in recent scholarship in an attempt to clarify these definitions. Vlastimil Vohánka (Olomouc, Czech Rep.) addresses an important issue in contemporary metaphysics and philosophy of science, namely the status of natural laws and truths about natural kinds (standard lawlike propositions). His specific focus is the analysis and evaluation of Dietrich von Hildebrand's argument that standard lawlike propositions are not metaphysically necessary (since they are not knowable solely by considering essences) and of Luis Groarke's recent defence of the metaphysical necessity of some standard lawlike propositions. Groarke's reply article will appear in the second 2014 issue of our journal. John Peterson (Rhode Island, USA) argues in "Creation and Consciousness" that human beings did not in their entirety evolve out of lower life forms since (human) consciousness as such is ultimately simple and only what is composite can come into existence by evolution. The issue is concluded with a brief review by Ulrich G. Leinsle (Regensburg, Germany) of Bernd Roling’s Physica Sacra:Wunder, Naturwissenschaft und historischer Schriftsinn zwischenMittelalter und Früher Neuzeit (Leiden, 2013).
